Feedback or criticism?
Feedback or Criticism uses real life, practical examples that everyone can relate to. The book was developed as a result of four years of hands-on experience in delivering practical workshops on performance management to hundreds of line managers in several blue chip organisations such as Marks and Spencer, Honda and HBOS.
The book draws upon this experience with the aim of providing readers with a toolkit of techniques for driving improvement in performance. It is written in a style that is easy to understand and provides readers with plenty of case studies, role plays and situational scenarios so that what could be deemed as a big issue or a confrontational conversation is tackled in a much more positive way.
In the current economic climate there is heightened emotion around performance related issues and this book provides line managers with a 'lifeline' for delivering helpful and constructive feedback, even in the most negative situations.
Noggin client, Martin Moll, Marketing Director at Honda comments on Feedback or Criticism: 'This book gives you great guidance and material to overcome the perception of conflict that might surround problem issues. It removes the risks of personal emotion being attached and it works. For any manager that has experienced that 'Oh God, I've got to sort this out' feeling - this succinct book is your answer.
Feedback or Criticism splits into fourteen sections covering topic areas such as the nature of feedback, managing preconceptions, body language, managing expectations, qualifying feedback, coaching behavioural change plus a host of handy tips.
Ben Houghton, co-author of Feedback or Criticism explains the rationale behind the book: 'Most managers will agree that ultimately what they want from a performance discussion is for the individual to improve. However this rarely happens. This book is designed to coach managers to become coaches; it is as much about how you have a conversation with someone about their performance as what you cover in the process, and our goal is to make sure that people get the most out of these sessions.'
